Rinse, Spit, and Relax

Last night I had my biannual dentist appointment. Strangely enough, I have the most relaxing time at the dentist. I know this goes against all of the stereotypes of the cringing trip to the dentist.
But let's look at the situation. For a half hour, I get to sit in a comfy chair, listen to relaxing jazz music, and am physically prohibited from carrying on a conversation. What could be more relaxing? I usually just lie there thinking about ... absolutely nothing. That's a rarity nowadays. It seems like every minute of my day is taken up with thoughts about clients, news, appointments, the kids' sports, iPhone, Kindle, advertising, train announcements, etc. This is a great 30-minute block every six months that I don't have to think about anything at all.
I guess I should consider my dentist check-ups not so much as a health visit for my teeth but for my brain.
